Description:
Porcelain box was a popular form produced in the Wanli period, and boxes with a narrative or a dragon and wave motif were products of the Wanli imperial kilns. This box owes its form to gold and silverware, and it has a cover. The rounded and depressed corners seem like petals. The complex patterns are painted in cobalt blue. The panel on the cover illustrates two playful dragons, and outside the panel are small birds, fruits, rocks, and lingzhi on the corners. The decorations on the box are the same as those on the cover. The base discloses the six-character reign mark, "made in the Wanli period of Great Ming," in cobalt blue, regular script.
