Description:
|
Jade cong of Liangzhu culture are usually top heavy. The corners are the central areas with decorative patterns on the sides. A cong is divided into sections, and each consists of four turning corners, which indicate four masks. The number of sections varies from cong to cong, and sections with big-eyed masks often alternate with those with small-eyed masks. In this culture, small-eyed masks signify god and ancestors while large-eyed masks resemble divine animals. The coexistence of both masks stands for the unification of god, ancestors, and divine animals, and it reveals the religious ideology of Liangzhu culture.
