Description:
This large jade cong was acquired by the palace probably in the 19th century, since it is not inscribed with a poem by the Qianlong emperor. It is a carved nephrite of dark green color with reddish splashes of varying tints. The surface exhibits sunken marks left by the initial chiseling of the nephrite. The form is a tall, squared, and top-heavy column. It is drilled hollow from both ends, and the meeting point is not perfectly aligned. The top rim is slightly flared and the bottom rim is straighter. The four corners of each section feature small-eyed masks. There are 17 sections and 68 masks in total.
