Description:
|
A greenish yellow jade exhibits shades of red due to long term handling and massaging. The pendant is arching in shape, and it is large in size comparing to others. There are five decorative, oblong relieves along the top rim, and there are four on the bottom. On each decorative relief, an extremely low relief of a big-eyed mask is carved. Big-eyed masks are common in Liangzhu jades, but masks on this pendant differ from other masks by having long, straight, and oval pupils, as opposed to the conventional slanting, ovoid pupils. Although the masks of this pendant are not typical, they can be seen on some extant Liangzhu jades.
