The inkstone is made of songhua stone and is rectangular in shape. The inkstone body is affixed to a stand with one foot-knob on each corner. The brownish yellow inkstone has a green ink-face, where ink is ground with visible thin stripes and light green dots. The ink-face has a dimension of 11.0 cm x 8.4 cm; its sides are decorated with two hornless dragons facing each other. The inkstone cover is also made of a light green songhua stone. Its decoration is an embossment in relief of mountain and clouds and roaring sea as background, with a dragon and horse bearing a drawing on the mountain and a tortoise bearing a book in the sea. On the upper right, an inscription describes the picture: dragon and horse hold a drawing, tortoise offers a book."
