Description:
This painting depicts Qidan people in a scene of hunting with eagles. The figures wear typical Qidan clothing and hats. Their eagles and their riding gear are also characteristic. Of the four hunting birds, three appear to be different colored eagles known as "haidongqing" Of the different birds in the accipiter family, many are good hunters. Among these, the haidongqing is one of the very best. Its breeding grounds are located within the area inhabited by the Qidan, and it is particularly known for hunting swans.Hu Huai liked to use brushes made of wolf's hair. The stiffness of the wolf's hair made these brushes suitable for drawing exquisitely detailed paintings.
