Description:
|
In front of the vine, two quails appear about to take a satisfying peck at the beetle on the ground. Throughout Willow and Quail, the artist has not drawn any outlines. Instead, the painting is executed entirely by using different tones of ink applied in an additive manner until completion. It is an example of the "boneless" method of painting. In Willow and Quail, there are considerably subtle changes in the rendering of details such as the feathers. This quality is indicative of the extreme fineness of Song painting style.
