Description: 
The sculptor of this brush-holder used two motifs, the pine tree and the big rock, to separate two spatial orientations, the interior and the exterior. The pine tree stands outside in front of a round window, within which a group of four maidens in different postures are sculpted. A maiden stood behind the door-screen and looked back to talk with another one who is holding a book. The two seems to be discussing the carving of a Tung tree on the divider. Holding a ruyi, one maiden is appreciating a lotus plant in a vase with another maiden. There is also a long bed laid with a sitting mat inside the room. Both patterns on the sitting mat and the vase are carved in detail. Under the rock that sits outside, three maidens are leisurely resting. One sits on a sitting mat and plays a flute. Another one sits on the rock to play a stringed instrument. This maiden's head is held high and thus her countenance is distinguishable. One holds a fan and stands under the pine tree. On the rock, a kai-shu (regular style) inscription, "San-song," can be identified.
