This brush holder is sculpted from a piece of wood but not in a fully three-dimensional result. The sculptor applied embossment in deep relief and low relief to convey a three-dimensional perception of the sculpted surface. The illustration on this brush holder depicts a story in West garden stories. The carved objects are banana plants, which have full three-dimensional bodies.
