Description:
|
This zun is somewhat similar to the ancient zun that stored wine. In the mid-Ming, painted porcelains of this type served as vases. This form is primitive and heavy, and the clay is not quite refined. Although the glaze is damaged and the trimming marks remain, the vessel appears candid and warm. The lip resembles four petals, and cicada leaves surround the neck. The underglaze decorations are neat, comprising a keyfret pattern, banana leaves, chrysanthemums, and lotuses. The body indicates four panels, each with an Arabic phrase, "Oh God! I pray for your blessing," "Its master," "As well as destroying," and "his enemies" respectively. The base shows a double-ringed reign mark, "made in the Zhengde period of Great Ming," in two columns, regular script.
