Description:
|
This vase is characterized by a small mouth, thick lips, short neck, broad shoulders, and tapering body that flares at the foot. Vases with the first four qualities are conventionally called "meiping". The shape has become popular since the Song Dynasty, and they are made in various kilns, though with different characteristics. The small mouth is suitable for storing wine, sauce, and other liquids. It is coated with two glazes, which undergo a transformation during the firing process. The inner glaze is a red Jun glaze, and a blue Jun glaze is sprayed over it evenly. In the firing process, the glazes show different degrees of condensing and running, thereby forming a very natural combination of red and blue. The glaze also shows streaks of white, thereby enhancing the brilliance and the diversity of colors.
