Description:

It is a large oval-square hu with a ring foot and a lid. On the sides of the belly is a pair of ring handles. This type of vessel gradually became popular in the middle Western Zhou. Inscriptions on the rim of the lid calls itself a hu, therefore we know that this type of vessel was called hu. On the rim, the top of the lid, and on the handle are different styles of gui dragon pattern and geometric curves. The neck is decorated with two bands of ring patterns. The belly is decorated with animal masks. Both the neck and the belly are embellished with thunder patterns in the background, while the ring foot is decorated with scale patterns. The inscription states that the precious vessel is made by yingju in the hopes that his descendents will cherish the vessel forever.
