Description:
Carved of green jade, the disc appears dark brownish red and opaque. Green jades with such dark color are made possible only through long-term handling. The National Palace Museum(Taipei) houses many objects for handling, and it is a unique characteristic of the jade collection of the museum.Grain patterns are carved on the pendants in delicate, low relief. The interior and exterior edges are shaped in half-disc. The surface is clear and decorated with right-drilled patterns, which resemble grains. Evidently, this is a product of the Warring States period. In the Qing Dynasty, it was collected by the court, and cut into half by the court artisans. The cut surface was fired and polished in order to give a consistent look with the rest of the disc. The edge is inscribed with a poem composed by the Qianlong emperor.
