Description:
|
Carved of translucent green jade, part of the disc is brown. The jade is conventionally perforated, incised, and carved in sgraffito skillfully. Three flat, circular ridges separate the disc into three regions. The inner region is the hole, the middle region is decorated with nipple patterns, and the outer region is perforated to render a phoenix pattern, which extends beyond the outer edge of the disc. We call this design with extending decoration "outbound jade disc". Two characters, "changle," meaning eternal joy, are perforated on the two ends of the outer region along the central axis.
