Description:
Carved of green nephrite, the edge of the hole is inscribed with the reign mark, "made in the Qianlong period". Both sides have rings of decorations. The interior ring has nipple pattern, and the exterior ring has eight sets of interweaving, abbreviated dragon pattern. Each set of dragon corresponds with the adjacent set.In a glance, the arrangement of motifs is akin to that of Western Han jade discs, and traces of imitation are noticeable. After close examination, however, the animal motif of Western Han jade discs consists of two animal profiles, which together form a frontal image of an animal. This integral and significant structure is dissolved and abbreviated to become a solely decorative pattern in the imitations of the Qing jade artisans, thereby losing the original integrity and liveliness.
