Description:
This white jade armrest is white and spotless. This jade is lustrous and smooth and is produced in Mount Kunlun located in Xinjiang province. The jade of this type is almost perfectly white and emits a lustrous and full glossiness, and thus is called yang baiyu, or sheep's suet jade. Since Song dynasty, craftsmen have derived artistic motifs from nature, as well as from literary allusions. This armrest, styled and shaped like its raw material, alludes to broad and non-secular bearing of a virtuous man.
