Description:
The inkstone itself seems to be more akin to a duan stone. The inkstone keeps the basic shape of the original stone and is modified very little to become round. The ink-face, where the ink is ground, also is slightly sculpted to become round. The inkwell has the shape of a fish, and on the cover, a fish made of jade is inlaid to form a parallel pattern with the inkwell. The fish is surrounded by reeds and waves-like carvings. On the inner rim of the cover, an inscription is carved in zhuan-shu (seal style). Most of the characters are recognizable, but some are no longer recognizable. On the back, a poem by Qianlong is chased in kai-shu (regular style).
