Description:
By a lake edged with reeds and in the rain at dusk, two herdboys wearing straw raincoats and hats ride water buffalo against the driving wind. For the two water buffalo, every step proves challenging. Riding on the back of one, a herdboy heaves his body forwards in an evenly matched effort against the gusty wind and pelting rain. His companion turns anxiously around tightly grasping his straw hat, which the fierce wind threatens to blow away. Willow branches and reed poles lean to the left. Along with the postures and gestures of the buffalo and the herdboys, these details testify to the strength and direction of the wind. The artist has clearly not forgotten about the "wind" in the painting's title.
